Jan. 30 event tackles depression

More Joy Regina on Bell’s Let’s Talk Day this Jan. 30 is going one step further than talking—it will offer concrete advice and support too.

More Joy Regina at the Conexus Arts Centre will bring together provincial mental health professionals to present treatment options and coping strategies. The three-hour evening is a fundraiser for the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Regina Branch.

“One in five Canadians lives with mental health problems, mental illnesses or addiction. But the reality is, five in five of us have mental health, just like we have physical health,” said CMHA Director of Community Engagement, Shannon Patton.

“Our mental health is about more than being happy all the time, it’s about feeling good about who we are, having balance in our life and managing life’s highs and lows. An event like this will help give people permission to search for and hopefully experience a little more joy in their life.”

– Shannon Patton, Canadian Mental Health Association

More Joy Regina is the brainchild of journalist and author Christalee Froese who toured with her first book,  Journey to Joy, this fall.

“Everywhere I went and told my story of breakdown and recovery, I was met with people of all ages who were struggling profoundly with depression and anxiety,” said Froese.

Her solution: The More Joy Movement which will be launched on Jan. 30, 2019 to coincide with Bell’s Let’s Talk Day. More Joy Regina will feature an array of speakers and mental health professionals, as well as a Steeped Tea Bar and a Serenity Lounge, all MC’d by CBC’s Costa Maragos.

Tickets to More Joy Regina, $55, are available at:
• Prairie Psychology (2230 Lorne St.) – cheque and cash only
• CMHA Regina Branch (1810 Albert St.) – cheque and cash only

Depression…Let’s Talk!

Depression and anxiety are so hard…I know, I’ve been there.
But, there’s help…and there’s HOPE!
On Bell’s Let’s Talk Day, Wednesday, Jan. 30, we’ll spend the evening together at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina talking…AND EXPLORING SOLUTIONS.
It’s my hope that by being totally open and honest, we’ll shake off some of that stigma about mental health.

And … we’re going to have amazing people with us to help:

• The Canadian Mental Health Association, Regina Branch will bring you their Stress Survival Kit

• The U of R and Sask. Health will tell you about their FREE online therapy program (I’m trying it right now—it’s AMAZING).

• Psychologists Blair Sirup and Judy Wright, and Life Coach Christine Majeran will talk about info. and solutions

• We’ll have a Steeped Tea bar to sooth; a Meditation Lounge to provide peace and uplifting JOY TEAM members to talk, share and support.

Tickets are only $45 (includes draws for over $2,000 in prizes) until Jan. 15. Get yours here More Joy Regina.

Buy a More Joy T-Shirt here, and help support someone who needs counselling and is not covered by their work benefit package. It’s a great way to SPREAD THE JOY!

After encountering many people suffering from anxiety and depression during my recent book tour with Journey to Joy, I knew I wanted to do something to help.

So, this week I launched The More Joy Movement.

The More Joy Movement is:

1 – Events – The first one is More Joy Regina, Jan. 30, 2019 at the Conexus Arts Centre (click More Joy Regina for tickets & details).

2 – Blog/Facebook Page – Visit my Blog and The More Joy Movement Facebook Page for weekly updates, podcasts and  information on how we can help each other deal with depression and anxiety.

3 – More Joy T-Shirts – These great fashion t-shirts (Navy, Coral & Slate) are super soft and extra long, making them perfect with jeans or yoga pants. And, they spread a great message…More Joy! Each shirt is $40 (includes PST and GST). Net profits fund counselling for those without benefits. Shop at More Joy T-Shirts.

Thank you to my fabulous local models: Kathy Kohl, Lauren Kohl and Joan Williams and thanks to Sisters Bistro for the great space.

Let’s start spreading the JOY…one t-shirt at a time!

The universe brought Tonia

It all started off rather innocently.

A Montmartre friend, Crystal Dusyk, told me she had given my book to her friend at a conference. I thought it was a very nice gesture.

The person she gave the book to just happens to be from Ontario and after reading Journey to Joy, she was interested in connecting with me. So, without really knowing much about each other, we set up a phone call.

Her name is Tonia and she was absolutely lovely to speak with—genuine and inspiring. She could relate to the path I had walked. We talked about how everyone struggles at times and how it would be great to do something concrete to help.

Turns out that Tonia is the founder of Sipology by Steeped Tea, a North American tea empire. She also won over investors on CBC’s Dragon’s Den, and in 2016 she was Canada’s Top Female Entrepreneur with over $20  million in sales.

With her as my inspiration, suddenly anything seemed possible.

So, I began sharing my wildest dreams with Tonia—’open-mic joy nights,’ ‘hope-restoring tea parties,’ and even a world-wide ‘joy movement’!

Tonia would send back encouraging messages to my ideas like:”Cool!” “Love this idea!” “Love this idea too.” And, “I can help out with the tea of course!”

So…thanks to Tonia Jahshan (and Crystal Dusyk), I will be launching The More Joy Movement on November 8! It all starts off at the Conexus Arts Centre on Jan. 30, 2019 on Bell Let’s Talk Day. Tonia will not be there, but she is providing a Sipology Tea Bar with Heal Thy Self Teas. And most importantly, Tonia has provided the inspiration, and the hope that we can ALL HAVE MORE JOY!

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Once you have made a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.”

The universe is conspiring to spread more joy!

JOIN ME in making it happen…the world could use MORE JOY (tickets to More Joy Regina go on sale Nov. 8)!
